Akha in Thailand

Akha is a group that emerged from the tribal south-west China. In addition to northern Thailand, this tribe is located in China, Laos and Burma. Today there are about 20,000 Akha living in northern Thailand in Chiang Rai and Chiang Mai in higher elevations.

There are four main groups in this tribe that is the U-Law, the Law Wed, Pa Mi, and A Kay. All four groups speak the Akha language, besides their dialect. The dialect spoken by the U, the law and the Pa Mi Miis very similar, but the A-Kay speak a dialect very particular.

The Akha live in houses made of bamboo. It is used to construct the roofs of grass Cogoni of their homes. They built their houses on stilts. Akha villages are generally large, consisting of thirty houses. Their houses are built on hills to avoid such an attempt, diseases and epidemics. The main leaders in an Akha village is the spiritual leader or shaman. Akha are animists and live their lives according totheir beliefs. If a member of the tribe to a non-believer, he / she is usually the country forever.

Akha lifestyle is on the agricultural system. They work hard in the fields, spend more time with their families. They grow rice and a variety of vegetables on the side of the mountain. In addition there are cash crops like pepper, soy beans, cabbage and tomatoes. Akha women are taken for their expertise in weaving observed. They sell fabrics, clothes, decorative itemsbamboo, wood and rattan are complementary to bow to their income.
