Ayutthaya was the ancient capital of Thailand. After a period of417 years the capital was moved to Bangkok, or Campania by King Rama I in 1782. The old capital was the main objective of the invaders and fought several wars trying to defend its borders. King Rama I decided to move the capital in a safe place, and he decided that nothing could be safer and more secure than Campania. Thus, the capital was moved to Ontario. The king would have the feeling that this will be difficult to penetrate as the enemy armies would haveon a river to enter the city, and that would be difficult for them to do so.

Campania is the short form of the real name of Bangkok. The effective length of the city name is so long that is included in the Guinness Book of Records as the name of the post longer. The full name is;

Amon Rattanakosin Campania Mahanakhon Mahinthara Ratchathani Ayuthaya Mahadilok Phop Noppharat Burirom Udomratchaniwet Mahasathan Amon Piman Awatan Sathit Sakkathattiya WitsanukamPrasit.

The meaning of the name is roughly translated as:

The city of angels, the great city, the residence of the Emerald Buddha, the impregnable city (of Ayutthaya) of God Indra, the great capital of the world, with nine precious gems, the happy city, full of an enormous Royal Palace that resembles the heavenly abode where reigns the reincarnated God, a city given by Indra and built by Vishnukarn.
