Thailand Travel Tips and Customs

After living in Bangkok for over a year I learned many things about the Thai people that I wanted to know, along with other foreigners who live or vacation here. The first thing you have to accept is that eastern culture is different. People in the east are less emotional and more polite, and while they know the West are different, are often uncomfortable, if you depart from the rules. The things that I found to be important are listed below in order ofMeaning

Be courteous - keep Thais is very friendly. Their language is very polite incorporated. If you are in what is considered "courtesy" that will be fine.

Thai King - The Thai love their king, King Rama IX. Never show any type of disrespect for him or the royal family. Thais have a deep respect for the tradition of the royal family, and guests should also respect for the king and queenand the sons of the king. When participating in public events, that is a member of the royal family present, the best guide on how to behave, to see the crowd and do what he does.

Security - Stealth crimes like pickpocketing are the most common problem, so it's worth, keeps a watchful eye on your belongings at all times and aware of the nature of the people around you. Gratuitous violence against tourists are rare, but it's worth, common sense.

It is forbidden for women to touch Buddhist monks, including this woman who has something toMonaco, the shipment should be the first to a man who hands the item given Monaco. In addition, men in the West should never try to shake hands with a Monaco.

Be Quiet - Loud people considered rude. Speak softly and not to burst out laughing. Of course there are the cliches such as bars,Festivals and parks, which provides appropriate and not out loud.

Greetings - Greetings in Thailand can be very formal in appearance to the Western eye. The basic gesture is to put your hands, fingers, with a slight bow of the head. The words "see Dee (Krupp)" (or "Kaw") for women are spoken during fm arc. It 'difficult for Thais, with three levels, age and position, but attempts to get this greeting the West does not expect tounderstand. (Levels: 1 Monk, thumbs touching his forehead Durin sheets, 2 of the same age or older, thumbs touching lips, and 3 younger people, thumbs touching his chin.)

Food - Eating in Thailand is usually Hot, hot. Most Westerners can not enjoy managing the amount of spices and chilli Thai people. For the Westerners, foreigners can visit the best advice I give is to ask to ensure that food less spicy. There are two phrases used to be on the basis of preference: 1) "NeverPED "- not spicy and 2)" PED NIT us "- a little 'spicy. The food in Thailand is impressive, and this tip will help you enjoy even more. In the near future I would publish a description of my favorite dishes. Stay tuned.

Street Food - There is an old saying in Thailand: 'A little dirt makes the food a bit' more delicious () rough translation. For the West, the purchase of food for the road may have an impact on health, the possible contraction of the variousgastro-intestinal problems. While most of the tents are set up, cleaned only by local standards. I live a "rule of thumb that has served us well, lives in Bangkok. This rule is simple, but you have to leave things as they are. E ' "only from the streets, eat cooked before you." This will ensure that the food is cooked in its entirety a second time, before eating. Unfortunately, this prevents a lot of food for the road was, but better safe than sorry after week.

Body Odor - ThaiPeople almost never smell badly and they find it offensive if others do.

Crazy - if you prepare the areas to go to Thailand during Thai holidays and festivals are to meet many people. For the Western experience the volume of these areas can be incredible. Be prepared to push and pushed and aware that anything bad. This sense of personal space is very different from Westerners.

Watch where you walk - The sidewalks in Bangkokis irregular and full of obstacles, attentive. Oh, also the streets, many stray dogs, dogs are not aggressive, but do not leave mine on the sidewalk.

Taxi Driver - The majority of taxi drivers are in order. In general, it is best to use the taxi meter. Tuk are increasingly expensive and with Bangkok traffic you could breathe in a lot of smog on the road. When you negotiate a considerable distance to go ... In addition, taxis, "We love farang, talkEnglish ", well, most of them do not. They have a radio that is a person who knows a bit 'of English.

Cinema - advertising and the right before the film is a tribute to the King of Thailand to come, and is in all respects.

Driving in Thailand - If you are brave and decide that you want to travel in Thailand is not to be too worried, it's not so bad. There are only understand a few things.Driver used instead of the left side of the law, as in the United States, and the streets are generally narrower than the United States. Make driving next to a bus or a truck can be a little 'intimidating.

WC - toilets East can be very intimidating even for Western travelers. Note that the bathrooms are surrounded by oriental little more than holes in the ground ceramics and include water, not paper, for cleaning. To be honest, I used did not receive this type of system for itsin its entirety. Also, there are many women in the men's room, there are room for cleaning. Which can be very irritating when you first experience this, but there are more cleaning.

Following these tips you can provide a better understanding of the Thai people and have more fun in your stay in Bangkok have, so the local people more comfortable with you and give you a better understanding of how things work in Thailand.
